General Questions

What types of handyman projects can I request?

You can request common home repairs, drywall repair, mounting, painting, fixture replacement, furniture assembly, maintenance, and other improvement projects. Browse our Handyman Services page or send us your project details if you are unsure where it fits.

Which areas do you serve?

We coordinate handyman services throughout Westchester County, including Mount Vernon, Bronxville, White Plains, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Yonkers, and surrounding communities. Visit our Locations page or provide your address so we can confirm availability.

How do I request handyman service?

Select any “Request a Free Quote” button and submit your name, contact information, project location, description, and photos. We review the request and contact you with the appropriate next step.

Should I include photos of the project?

Yes, whenever possible. Wide photos show the work area and close-up photos show damage, hardware, labels, or connection points. Clear photos help us understand the scope and determine whether an on-site review is needed.

Can I provide my own materials or replacement parts?

Often, yes. The item must be complete, undamaged, compatible with the existing surface or system, and suitable for the intended use. Include the product name, model, dimensions, and installation instructions with your request when available.

What if my project is not listed on the website?

Send us a description and photos. We will let you know whether the project is within the available handyman scope or requires a different licensed trade or specialist.

Do you handle emergency repairs?

914 Handy is not an emergency-response service. For an active fire, gas odor, major water leak, electrical hazard, or immediate danger, contact emergency services or the appropriate utility first. You may submit a request for non-emergency follow-up work after the area is safe.

Pricing & Estimates

Do you offer free estimates?

You can request a free quote review through the website. Some projects can be estimated from complete details and photos, while others require an on-site assessment before final pricing can be confirmed.

How is the price for my project calculated?

Pricing depends on labor, project size, access, preparation, materials, disposal, travel, existing damage, and the complexity of the work. The approved estimate identifies the planned scope and price before work begins.

Are online calculator prices final?

No. Calculator results are ballpark planning estimates. The final price is based on the actual site conditions, measurements, materials, access, and approved project scope.

Can the price change after work begins?

The price may change only if the scope changes or concealed conditions are discovered, such as hidden damage or incompatible previous work. Any additional work should be explained and approved before it is added.

Are materials included in the estimate?

Your written estimate should state whether materials are included, supplied by you, or billed separately. Product selections and allowances should be confirmed before scheduling.

When is payment due?

The payment schedule and accepted payment method are provided with your estimate or appointment confirmation. Review those terms before approving the work.

Scheduling & Process

How quickly will I receive a response?

Response time depends on request volume and the information provided. A complete description, address, measurements, and clear photos help us review your request more efficiently.

What happens after I submit the quote form?

We review the project, contact you if details are missing, and determine the next step. That may be a preliminary estimate, product confirmation, an on-site assessment, or scheduling after you approve the scope.

Can I request a specific appointment day or time?

Yes. Include your preferred dates and time windows with the request. An appointment is not final until availability is confirmed.

How long will my project take?

Timing varies with the scope, access, preparation, drying or curing time, material availability, and any hidden conditions. We provide an expected duration after reviewing the project.

Do I need to be home during the appointment?

An authorized adult should normally be available at the beginning to confirm the work and at completion to review it. Any alternate access arrangement must be agreed upon before the appointment.

How should I prepare the work area?

Remove fragile or personal items, provide a clear path to the work area, secure pets, and keep children away from tools and materials. Have owner-supplied products and instructions available before the appointment.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

Contact us as soon as possible using the information in your appointment confirmation. Any cancellation or rescheduling terms provided with the booking will apply.

Trust & Service Standards

Who will perform the work?

914 Handy coordinates your request with a local service professional suited to the approved scope. Appointment details are confirmed before the visit so you know what work is planned.

Are handyman services insured and trusted?

Requirements depend on the project and local rules. We do not represent ordinary handyman work as a substitute for a licensed trade. Ask for the applicable provider and coverage information for your specific project before approving service.

What work requires a licensed trade or permit?

Some electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, and other regulated work may require a properly licensed professional, permit, or inspection. Requirements vary by municipality and scope. We will not knowingly include regulated work as ordinary handyman service.

How is my home protected during the work?

The work plan should include reasonable protection for nearby floors, furniture, and finishes. Please identify delicate surfaces or special concerns before work begins.

Will the work area be cleaned afterward?

Normal cleanup and removal of project debris included in the approved scope are completed before the job is closed. Disposal of unusually large, heavy, or hazardous materials must be arranged in advance.

What should I do if I notice a problem?

Contact 914 Handy promptly at (914) 627-8506 or contact@914handy.com. Include your project address, a description of the concern, and photos when helpful so the matter can be reviewed.

Is the work guaranteed?

Any workmanship warranty or service-resolution terms applicable to your project should be stated in the written estimate or confirmation. Product warranties are provided by their manufacturers and may have separate requirements.
